LLAMA HEALTH: AN OVERVIEW
Llama Medical Management
The purpose of this brochure is to aid new and old llama owners in recognizing signs of illness in their animals, so that assistance may be sought and appropriate measures initiated.  International Llama Association
Heat Stress in Llamas
The lama has become accepted as an easily cared-for, domesticated, investment animal in North America. Their low maintenance and affordable care, along with their exotic allure, has helped fuel their explosive growth in recent years. These animals evolved in the high altitudes of the South American Andes and are not naturally adapted to long periods of exposure to extreme heat and/or humidity.  International Llama Association
Caring for Suri Llamas in North American Climates
All llamas have basic husbandry requirements, regardless of fiber type. These requirements include proper de-worming and vaccinations based upon the geographic location of the herd, toenail maintenance, dental care, body condition scoring, proper nutrition with good quality forage, appropriate vitamin/mineral supplementation and shearing.  Dr. Kristy Brown, DVM. Leon Valley Veterinary Services, Sparta, WI
